Munich Re's new analytics leader to focus on biometrics, customer experience

Munich Re U.S. has named Michael Taht EVP of research, analytics and underwriting.

Taht has worked in the company's Atlanta office, which focuses on life and health, since 2008. He most recently ran marketing and pricing for the carrier's individual life and living benefits departments. In his new role, he will oversee all biometric research and integrated analytics efforts.

Noting that the company's predictive analytics and morbidity expertise has already helped streamline its underwriting and new business acquisition, Taht says that biometrics, or technology and data that examine uniquely identifiable characteristics, has a lot of potential to continue that trend for the company.

"There are an increasing number of data sources available to assist in assessing biometric risks," he says. "The use of data sources when underwriting life insurance could materially enhance customers’ buying experience by making it faster and less invasive."

Taht says he also will continue his involvement with Munich Re's insurtech efforts, especially as new companies come up with innovations in the customer experience realm.

"Keeping abreast of developments within the insurtech space was part of my previous role and will continue to be critical as they are clearly focused on improving the customer experience," he says. "In addition to insurtech, we are keeping an eye on developments in the health space that may help assess risks and identify markets and customers that may have been underserved in the past."
