Progressive signs on with Rand McNally to collect trucker data

Progressive has entered a partnership with Rand McNally by which the insurer will subsidize the purchase of devices to help truckers comply with e-logging requirements. In return, the insurer will gain informational data about trucking trips.

Truckers who purchase a Rand McNally ELD 50 or DC 200 device, and become customers of commercial liability insurance from Progressive, are eligible for the Smart Haul program. Drivers can receive rebates of up to $500 from Progressive once the device begins transmitting data to the insurer.

Progressive says the data collection is for “statistical purposes only” and will not impact insurance premiums.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requires truckers to log miles electronically by December 18.
