Protective Life Appoints Chief Underwriting Officer

Protective Life Corporation, a subsidiary of Dai-ichi Life Holdings, has announced Brad Gabel as its new vice president and chief underwriting officer.

Gabel most recently served as chief underwriting officer of TIAA-CREF Life Insurance Company and has more than 30 years of industry experience with previous stops at American International Group and Fellow of Academy of Life Underwriting. He will replace Steve Mac Donald, Protective Life's chief uinderwriting officer since 2006, who will retire this summer.

“Brad has experience with both traditional and emerging risk selection methods, and has successfully worked with product, risk, and distribution partners to evolve underwriting strategies,” said Richard Bielen, president and COO of Protective Life, in a statement. “We are very focused on innovative methods to meet today’s customer expectations and Brad is a strong addition to the Protective team.”
