David C. Darnell

Co-Chief Operating Officer

David C. Darnell is co-chief operating officer of Bank of America and is a member of the company’s executive management team. In this role, he is responsible for all of the businesses that provide individual customers and clients with deposit, card, home loan, business banking and wealth management products and services.The businesses Darnell leads serve 55 million U.S. households and small businesses through an unmatched coast-to-coast retail and ATM network, including the nation’s leading and award-winning digital banking platforms, with 30 million online and more than 12 million active mobile users. The business also provides specialists for all of its products and services through its banking center network, as well as financial solutions advisors and an industry leading platform known as Merrill Edge for 8 million mass affluent customers with more complex financial needs.Affluent and high net worth clients are served through Merrill Lynch wealth management and U.S. Trust, together representing one of the largest wealth management firms in the world with $2.3 trillion in total client balances and more than 17,500 Financial Advisors. Darnell also oversees Business Banking for companies with revenues of $5 million to $50 million, offering financial solutions and advice to more than 40,000 clients each year.Previously, Darnell was president of Global Commercial Banking, leading a team of commercial banking professionals who provide integrated delivery of the bank’s capabilities to one in three midsize businesses across the U.S. Prior to that, Darnell held various leadership positions including Middle Market Banking group president; Central Banking group president; Midwest Region president; and Florida Commercial Division executive. He joined the bank as a credit analyst in Greensboro, N.C. in 1979. Darnell is on the board of directors of Watsco, Inc. and the American Bankers Association. He is a member of the board of trustees of the National Urban League and Queens University
