Robert E. Milam Jr. is Director of Special Assets for Carolina First Bank a division of The South Financial Group, a Greenville, South Carolina based community bank holding company with total assets of $11.9 billion. Robert is responsible for commercial workouts in North and South Carolina, OREO and directly manages the Special Assets officers in CFB's Florida bank (d/b/a Mercantile Bank).Robert started his career with Birmingham, Alabama's SouthTrust Bank ($54 billion in assets) in 1987 and began his workout career there in 1996 eventually progressing to department manager. In 2004 Robert moved to Regions Bank ($85 billion in assets) to manage the Special Assets Department as it completed it's merger with Union Planters Bank. During his time as Director of Special Assets at Regions NPA's were reduced 40% while charge offs remained solidly within the second quartile of the Top 20 Banks during this period. Robert left Regions after a transition period following its merger with AmSouth Bank. In 2008 Robert joined Carolina First Bank to manage it's workout efforts in Florida. Four months later he assumed responsibility for OREO and workouts in the Carolina markets as well. Robert is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a BS degree in Finance and MBA.
