A majority of analytics projects are jeopardized due to poor access to the right data, according to a new report by analytics database provider Exasol.
The company surveyed more than 1,000 U.S.-based IT decision makers, and found that 57 percent of organizations have suffered because of slow or poor access to the right data. That has resulted in an inability to access real-time analytics and inaccurate business intelligence (BI).
Eighty percent of those surveyed reported that data guides organizational decision making more than 50 percent of the time. But significant performance, security, and forecasting challenges impede the ability to improve data strategy.
The survey indicated that data security (cited by 39 percent), high costs (citeed by 38 percent) and slow data performance (cited by 31 percent) were the biggest obstacles to data strategy.
For respondents leveraging cloud data warehouse systems, slow data query performance (cited by 30 percent) and lack of support for hybrid deployments (cited by 23 percent) were the biggest issues faced when configuring their platform.
When asked what they would like to change about their organizations’ data strategy, 44 percent of respondents said they want improved ease-of-use when integrating data from various sources for better analytics performance.
Other items on the wish list include more forward-looking analytic insights, such as recommendations, predictions and forecasts; and for their organizations to make data ready for analysis at a faster rate.
