QBE North America has appointed John Beckman as its new chief underwriting officer, the insurer announced Monday.

Beckman brings more than 25 years of experience to his new role, including four years as chief underwriting officer of CNA’s commercial insurance business. He will be tasked with leading QBE’s efforts to revamp its underwriting processes, including product development, technical leadership and risk appetites, the company said.

In addition, Beckham will serve as a member of the QBE North America Executive Management Board and chair QBE’s North America Underwriting Committee. He will be based in New York and report to Russell Johnston, CEO of QBE North America.

"Mr. Beckman is a talented insurance executive with broad leadership experience across a wide range of businesses and geographies," said Johnston, in a statement. "His proven ability to lead strong underwriting, actuarial and transformation initiatives will be a valuable asset in QBE North America's integrated specialist insurer strategy."
