The Standard, a life & annuity insurer based in Portland, Oregon, has promoted Laxman Prakash to second vice president of information security, the company announced Thursday.

Prakash joined The Standard in 2011 as director of information security and business continuity, tasked with strengthening the carrier’s data security efforts. He did just that, according to The Standard's SVP of information technology David O’Brien, leading the implementation of the carrier's ISO 27001-certified information security management system.

The new platform “enhanced the company’s business continuity practices,” O’Brien said in a statement, adding that Prakash has "contributed significantly to the success of The Standard’s IT organization.”

Prior to joining the insurer, Prakash served as senior portfolio manager for Wipro Technologies and a manager for KPMG, helping provide security services for industry clients.
