Travelers adds mobile to UBI program

Travelers has announced the launch of a smartphone app for its IntelliDrive usage-based insurance program.

IntelliDrive captures driving information for all enrolled drivers in a household for 90 days and determines an overall score. Renewal premiums will be based on that score and new customers can receive up to a 5 percent discount for enrolling in IntelliDrive. The app is now available in Minnesota and Nevada, with more states to be added later this year.

“IntelliDrive provides personalized auto insurance pricing, rewards our customers for good driving behavior and ultimately can lead to safer roads for everyone,” said Elaine Montgomery-Baisden, chief underwriting officer of personal insurance at Travelers.

Travelers is partnering with TrueMotion, a leading provider of smartphone usage-based insurance technology, to implement the app. The insurtech partnered with LexisNexis earlier this year to provide driver data to insurance companies. TrueMotion also developed a UBI app for Metlife in May.
