Aetna Global Benefits Launches Social Media Tools

With all the recent talk of insurance companies expanding their social media efforts, and studies examining the most likely users, Aetna Global Benefits (AGB) announced that its members now have access to an additional online resource designed to help them easily navigate their benefits and achieve their optimal health.

AGB initially will focus its efforts on creating an online community for its members and prospective customers. This complements existing online member resources, such as the AGB secure member Web site. The AGB’s page will include frequently updated information on its international provider community of more than 61,000 health care providers abroad, and approximately 900,000 in the United States; answers to frequently asked benefits questions; news feeds and videos; and health and wellness information and resources provided as an extension of the Aetna Global Health Connections program. Future efforts will provide content specifically targeted to its employer customers and brokers, the company says.

“Social media is an additional, innovative way to engage and educate our members on how to best use their plan benefits to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle,” said Donna Otten, head of Aetna Global Benefits. “We will continue to leverage the power of technology to deliver key information and resources to our customers and members.”

Aetna’s international business segment also has launched its presence on Facebook, in an effort to enhance the service experience for the organization’s more than 400,000 members worldwide.

“We will continue to leverage the power of technology to deliver key information and resources to our customers and members,” Otten added. “We are committed to developing and leveraging online capabilities that can be accessed anytime from wherever our members are located. Our presence on Facebook is an extension of our commitment to provide them with enhanced, helpful service and valuable information so they can make better-informed decisions about managing their health.”
