It’s that time of year again when turkey is on the lips — both literally and figuratively — of most Americans. But while the bird may be both delectable and coma-inducing, it’s also a potential hazard to homeowners. According to State Farm, cooking fires are the No. 1 cause of home fires and injuries. To wit, more cooking fires occur on Thanksgiving Day than any other day of the year. Fortunately for gluttonous Americans, State Farm has found that cooking fire claims on Thanksgiving have dropped from 66 claims in 2010 to 29 claims in 2012 — the lowest number of claims in the past decade.Despite this positive trend, State Farm asserts that there are still injuries and damage to property as a result of turkey frying or cooking fires each year.The following are the top states for grease- and cooking-related claims on Thanksgiving Day from 2005 to 2012:
