Business intelligence and analytics dominate the concerns of CIOs dealing with more and more data, according to an
Conducted from October 2010 to January 2011, the study also found cloud deployment plans doubling in the last two years and mobile devices as a “game changer” in fast-changing markets. In the survey, IBM held face-to-face interviews with CIOs from a variety of industries and enterprise size, and matched those with financial metrics, which was a follow up to a similar CIO study done in 2009.
More than 80 percent of respondents put BI and analytics as top priorities, particularly as a way to utilize big data, and 95 percent of all CIOs pointed to those fields as an area of growing competitiveness, according to the survey released Tuesday. Over the next three-to-five years, industries that led in expressed interest in BI/analytics were chemical and petroleum (91 percent), consumer products (89 percent) and health care (86 percent).
Mobile devices will proliferate as a means to deal with those business analytics projects and implementations, the survey suggested. About three-fourths of CIOs reported to be turning their attention to mobile computing and mobility solutions to keep up with data and daily demands.
Sixty percent of CIOs stated they are ready to embrace the cloud as a way to expand business and rival their competition, according to the survey. That was nearly double the number of CIOs engaged in the cloud from the IBM survey in 2009.
