Germania Insurance, CMT to Launch New Telematics Program

Germania Insurance has partnered with Cambridge Mobile Telematics to launch a new telematics platform for policyholders, the companies announced today.

The program, SafeScore, allows drivers to monitor mileage with minimal impact on battery life and provides users with a score upon every completed trip. Real-time collision detection is also available through the app, according to CMT.

The Texas-based insurer plans to reward its customers with gift cards for safe driving habits, it said. Similar programs from CMT have resulted in an average reduction of 35% in phone distraction, 20% in hard braking, and 20% in at-risk speeding, the companies said.

"Our goal is to engage our policyholders to think about their driving behavior and not just drive out of habit,” said Kelleen Arquette, Director of Actuarial at Germania, in a statement. “Through regular contact with the app, push notifications and emails, we want to make safe driving fun and rewarding."
