In an effort to feature more insurtechs, Digital Insurance has modified the format of our Meet the insurtech series.
Michael Balarezo, the CEO and founder of Adjusto, shared the following responses, which have been lightly edited.
What's the origin story of the company?
I'm a former all-lines adjuster turned software engineer who spent the last decade building automation software. After surviving the 2021 Marshall Fire I saw firsthand that the same inefficiencies and frustrations I experienced years ago as an adjuster still plagued the industry.
Determined to close the remaining gaps in the insurance pipeline, I launched Adjusto to modernize outdated processes and deliver capabilities to claims professionals and policyholders.
Drawing on my Silicon Valley experience, my mission is to make insurance synonymous with trust, fairness and innovation.
I've been in the field. I've carried the ladder, packed out contents, and walked families through devastation. Adjusto is built to solve the problems I lived through—on both sides of the claim. Claims shouldn't be a black box. Policyholders deserve visibility. Adjusters deserve tools that work. The industry doesn't have a people problem—it has a process problem. We're here to clean that up. AI doesn't replace human touch. It clears the path for it.
When was it founded and/or when was the product launched?
Adjusto was founded in April 2024 and publicly announced in March.
Can you tell me about the founders/founding team?
The three co-founders include Balarezo, Reid Greer, who is the chief technology officer and James Terry, the chief product officer.
Any meaning behind the company name?
The name "Adjusto" signals that the company is building software designed to support adjusters—created by adjusters, for adjusters.
It's also intended to be approachable and familiar to policyholders, many of whom are unaware of what an adjuster is until a claim arises.
How many employees?
Three
Where is the company based?
Adjusto operates as a remote company with team members located in Boulder, Colorado; San Francisco, California; and Sydney, Australia.
What pain points is the technology trying to solve?
We're transforming claims from a transaction into a trust-building experience. We believe software should work like magic—but be grounded in reality. Adjusto is the catalyst for fairness, transparency, and momentum in an industry overdue for change.
For adjusters:
Adjusters are tired of redoing the work that software promised to solve. We're here to make sure they don't have to. The goal isn't automation for its own sake—it's automation that empowers adjusters to focus on what matters.
Adjusto automates repetitive tasks and offers insights where human judgment is most needed—enabling adjusters to close claims faster and more accurately.
For policyholders:
The technology delivers transparency and visibility into the claims process, allowing policyholders to collaborate with adjusters and resolve their claims more efficiently.
The platform is designed to provide a modern, frictionless experience that meets consumer expectations of how software should work today.
What funding rounds has the company had?
Pre-Seed
What's ahead?
Adjusto is currently partnering with carriers, adjusters, and policyholders to pilot the technology and build real-world case studies in preparation for the company's first product launch.
