Statistically Speaking

Evolution Of Insurance E-Business GroupsAs the Web becomes more integrated into insurers' businesses, many carriers are dissolving their e-business groups entirely-and absorbing those functions into their IT departments or line-of-business organizations. This is a conclusion of a report published by Boston-based Celent Communications, which recently surveyed 10 top-tier insurance e-business groups.

The insurance e-business groups that are being retained are smaller and their functions are shifting from hands-on designing, building, and maintenance to strategic knowledge management and coordination, the report states.

Insurers will continue to reduce the size of their e-business groups, Celent predicts, but the smaller strategic knowledge management groups will play an important role as carriers deploy Web-based solutions across different product and functional areas.

The primary focus for e-business groups over the next few years? Strategy, education, usabiliity, security and standardization.
