The number one cause of fires and injuries in the home is cooking fires, and unattended cooking is the leading cause of kitchen fires, according to State Farm. While Thanksgiving typically has been the day with the most cooking fires, Christmas Day edged out Thanksgiving last year, according to State Farm claims data. Regardless of what day it is, you should never leave a fire unattended on the stove or in the oven, State Farm cautions.
