INN and Celent teamed up on the 9th Vanguards in Insurance Practices (VIP) awards, with a twist for this year: Because winners were announced at the Insurance Analytics Symposium, more categories were focused on data and analytics prowess. Celent's Mike Fitzgerald joined editor Nathan Golia in surveying insurance carriers on their favorite vendors in four categories, and any vendor receiving a vote in turn nominated an insurance carrier for Phase 2: Excellence in application of the technology. Here's who emerged:

Business Intelligence

IBM's clients lauded the company's business intelligence capabilities.

There was a tie in the data management category, with one winner being Insurity.

EagleEye Analytics was victorious in the predictive analytics category.

Guidewire emerged in the only "traditional" category for the year, core systems.

Phase II

For its use of big data to power customer centricity, MetLife took home the Phase II prize for the year, after being nominated by Cognizant.
