Tresa Stephens, North America Allianz commercial regional head of cyber, tech and media, is responsible for setting a portfolio and underwriting strategy within the region and leading a cross-functional team to execute on delivery of objectives that support profitability and assisting Allianz customers in mitigating cyber risk.
Stephens holds over a decade of experience in delivering specialized cyber, tech and professional liability solutions, leveraging her expertise to drive innovation and digital transformation to its regional cyber risk management. She held previous roles at Hiscox, Chubb and Argo Group, and currently serves as a steering committee member of the Eastern chapter of the
"Insurance is an industry where you get to learn a little bit about every business, and that's really fulfilling for a lifelong nerd. As a tech and cyber underwriter in particular, it often felt like we still have a ways to go in terms of harnessing and capitalizing on the power of data and technology relative to some other industries – though we're swiftly catching up!" Stephens shared in her entry to Digital Insurance's Women in Insurance Leadership awards. "There's tremendous opportunity for the entire industry to shift toward using digital solutions to enhance how to interact with our customers in real time, whether that's enhancing communications or supporting service delivery and claims management more efficiently."
As a cyber insurance expert, Stephens often serves as a media resource for cybersecurity and risk management. Intelligent Insurers recognized Stephens as a 2025 highly commended cyber mentor of the year, and in 2022 Insurance Business America recognized her as a rising star.
"I would credit most of my career success to date to being a huge nerd with a strong sense of humility. It's a combination that's lead me to never feel quite like I know enough and to deeply desire understanding what I don't. I think sometimes imposter syndrome gets a bad rap because that same feeling of concern that I might not be informed enough is what's propelled me to always research a topic until I'm overprepared," wrote Stephens.
Since joining Allianz in 2020, Stephens has led a revitalized cyber portfolio strategy and value proposition for the North American cyber and technology business. She was also nominated for the executive development program hosted by Allianz, AHEAD, a competition in which participants research and pitch an innovative idea to board members of the organization. Stephens pitched an approach that would streamline due diligence processes, involving a relatively minimal investment in an existing software solution to dramatically reduce time spent by underwriting resources across all lines of business on administrative tasks. Stephens' and her peers' pitch won the competition, with an iteration of the idea currently being put in flight by a dedicated project team.
Stephens actively contributes to thought leadership opportunities in the cyber risk and insurance space; she was a contributing author of the October 2024 Allianz Cyber Risk Report, a guest speaker on the Wharton Business podcast, a panel speaker at the NetDiligence Conference earlier this year, an interviewee for AMBest TV at Risk World 2025 and, most recently, an advisory board member for the Zywave Cyber Risk Insights Conference in October, to name a few.
As a leader focused on providing growth and development opportunities for her team, Stephens has also encouraged other Allianz Cyber team members to showcase their expertise as thought leaders in market-facing engagements.
