ACORD Launches Reinsurance & Large Commercial Blog

London, U.K. and Pearl River, N.Y. — The Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development (ACORD), a global, nonprofit insurance association seeking to improve standards use throughout the industry, launched a blog intended to provide information on global standards that apply to large commercial and reinsurance lines of business.

The ACORD London Office blog will be headed by ACORD's AVP, London Office, Roy Laker, and features insights and updates on issues ranging from maintenance request submissions and focus groups to standards releases and events.

Blog visitors can obtain updates on ACORD and standards, and share comments as well.

"Maintaining communication, especially interactive communication, is essential today,” says Laker. “Things are always changing, new things are happening, and we all need to share information and opinions. Blogs are an increasingly popular way that we can reach out to people, keep them up to date on what's happening, and have them give us feedback right online.”

According to the Webuser magazine site, in July 2008, "visits to blogs by surfers in the UK reached their highest-ever levels ... accounting for one in every 84 Web site visits." Similarly, the Pew Internet & American Life Project found in their July 2008 report that "33% of internet users (the equivalent of 24% of all adults) say they read blogs, with 11% of Internet users doing so on a typical day."

This is one of several blogs launched by ACORD. ACORD's President and CEO Gregory Maciag has had a great deal of interest and activity on his acordceo.org site. And Rick Gilman, VP, Communications and Industry/Government Affairs, launched acordcommunity.org for discussions about communications, implementations, events and an array of other related topics.
