“While American Family is making progress on multiple fronts—including all-time highs in customer satisfaction and retention, in addition to recent policy growth—we still need to address expense issues brought about primarily by broader economic conditions,” a company spokesperson said.
The company has reduced its total workforce by 730 positions, or almost 10 percent, over the past four years, mainly by attrition.
“While our overall employee count has decreased, we continue to hire for vacant and new positions that are essential to operating our business and providing exceptional service to our customers,” a company spokesperson said. “Our company is committed to growing and running our business efficiently for our customers.”
In 2011, the company’s net income declined 40 percent to $295.2 million from $487 million, and endured $1.2 billion in losses due to storm and catastrophes, such as the tornados in Kansas City and Joplin, Mo.
