Blue Shield of California Opens Lodi Campus

Lodi, Calif. — Blue Shield of California opened its doors to its new 20-acre Lodi campus today, expanding operations and creating a centralized customer service center. The first group of approximately 70 Blue Shield employees moved into the new campus, located at 3021 Reynolds Ranch Parkway.

When construction is complete in November 2008, the facility will house approximately 900 employees working in customer service, claims and membership processing, underwriting and other administrative functions, with capacity for a total of 1,050 employees, according to the insurer. There is potential for a second phase of construction that could expand the campus to house an additional 400 to 500 employees.

"After 24 years in Lodi, we are proud to have a new campus for our employees to call home, bringing new career opportunities and a renewed commitment to the local economy," says Bob Novelli, EVP of customer service and corporate marketing at Blue Shield of California. "The new facility brings together all our customer service capabilities, allowing Blue Shield to integrate its processes and better serve our customers."

The new facility is environmentally friendly, technologically advanced and offers amenities such as a full-service cafeteria and onsite gym, the company says. The building features construction materials made from renewable resources, recycled materials and products that are locally available. Blue Shield also installed energy-efficient heating, cooling and lighting systems, special plumbing to reduce water use, an irrigation system using reclaimed water and is recycling 50% of construction waste.
