Esurance Rolls Out UBI Pilot Program on Sprint CDMA Network

Esurance has piloted a program in Arizona to test Sprint's Integrated Insurance Solutions and based on the results of that test recently launched its first UBI offering to consumers in Texas, leveraging Sprint's wireless networking technology.

“Partnering with Sprint on usage-based insurance is helping Esurance offer consumers discounts of up to 30 percent based on their own unique driving habits,” said Chris Henn, managing director-Product, Esurance. “Our embrace of UBI fits with Esurance’s approach to using the latest technology, and is a great fit for our customer base of self-directed, tech-savvy customers.”

Now Sprint is offering a three-month Jump Start UBI Trial Program, which will enable all insurance carriers to evaluate the ROI of Integrated Insurance Solutions from Sprint. Vehicles would be fitted with a device plugged into the diagnostic port, which would capture vehicle information and driver-behavior data that then is transmitted over the Sprint wireless network. The location capability of the Sprint CDMA network will assist Integrated Insurance Solutions from Sprint in offering data analytics to insurers and policyholders, and carriers would be able to receive analytical data about participating policyholders’ driving behaviors.

“We have simplified usage-based insurance,” said Matt Carter, Sprint’s president of global wholesale and emerging solutions. “Sprint has assembled all the necessary components together so that insurers have a single point of contact for all UBI-related needs. We are working with industry-leading companies to help insurance carriers offer more options and help the policyholders drive more safely and save money. Sprint is committed to making transportation safer through our dependable and continually improving network.”
