Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, an operating subsidiary of WellPoint Health Networks Inc., has launched a networkwide technology initiative to help physicians better serve their patients, achieve greater efficiencies, and reduce costs. The initiative provides approximately 4,600 physicians who contract with the Atlanta-based health insurer with new technologies free of charge. Selected physicians will have their choice of either a prescription improvement package or a paperwork reduction package. The prescription improvement package includes a hand-held electronic prescribing unit with Microsoft supplied software to enable physicians to write many prescriptions and have them automatically faxed. The paperwork reduction package includes a professional grade Dell computer and Dell printer to facilitate online communication, including paperless submission of claims.
