Humana, Accolade integrate offerings for employers, plan members

One of the nation’s largest health insurers is integrating capabilities with a health consumer experience firm to improve offerings to employers and plan members.

Louisville, Ky.-based Humana is working with Accolade to better provide a differentiated healthcare and benefits experience for consumers, the companies say.

The intent is to offer a well-rounded and coordinated bundle of services that include Humana’s provider networks, and other Humana insurance and benefits offerings, and meld Accolade’s member engagement services, and its integrated health and benefits partner programs.

The integrated platform will first be launched in the Milwaukee and Cincinnati markets.

The initiative mirrors other efforts across health plans to improve consumer interactions, facilitate interaction and use of a wide range of services, and provide a platform that encourages healthier member behavior.

Humana and Seattle-based Accolade executives say the integration seeks to improve consumer engagement, experience, outcomes and costs in healthcare. The two entities say they will leverage an open and intelligent platform and a personalized advocacy solution “to create a whole person, whole population health offering for self-funded employer clients, their employees and families.”

Humana executives say the company will supply “a rich array” of data on Accolade’s platform, which leverages advanced machine learning to produce highly personalized and targeted services for a wide range of members, with the intent of reducing complexity and waste.

“Humana is taking a major step forward in reinventing the way healthcare is experienced by employees and their families by expanding our solution in partnership with Accolade,” says Chris Hunter, president of Humana’s group and specialty segment.

The open and connected Accolade platform brings employers and their health plan members more than 100 solutions, such as price transparency, provider search, telemedicine, wellness, maternity, centers of excellence, disability and leave. Humana, on the Accolade platform, will bring employers a personalized service based on the specific healthcare and benefits needs of their entire employee and family populations.
