Insurance Stocks Continue To Plummet

The Internet stock meltdown continues to clobber share prices for many companies that supply technology to insurers.Companies that provide Internet services for insurers especially have been hammered in this year's bear market. For example, ebix.com is in danger of being delisted by Nasdaq (see page 12). And InsWeb's stock has yet to recover from last year's slide. Now, the company is being sued by eHealthInsurance.com (see article, page 6).

A few insurance IT firms have managed to sustain their gains. Fiserv Inc., a Milwaukee-based processor and software provider, slipped $7 between March and April, but it's still up 66% for the year. And, SunGard Data Systems Inc. is up almost 59% from April 2000.
