Insurers in Virginia to Assist Tornado Victims

Saint Paul, Minn. – The Travelers Companies Inc. and Farmers Insurance are onsite in the Suffolk, Va., area to assist customers affected by recent storms and tornadoes.

Saint Paul, Minn.-based Travelers dispatched two of its Mobile Claim Headquarters, which are custom-built RVs designed to operate as mobile insurance claim offices. The Mobile Claim Headquarters can assist those unable to report their claim by telephone, or those needing more additional claim services. The mobile offices are staffed to provide claim services immediately following a disaster, including issuing checks to policyholders on the spot as well as ClaimTM cards—personalized debit cards for instant access to cash to cover immediate needs for food, clothing and shelter. Updated Mobile Claim Headquarters locations can be found on www.travelers.com as soon as they are in place.

"We are positioning our Catastrophe Response Team to best assist our local resources and help customers through this difficult situation," says Ray Stone, VP of catastrophe operations for Travelers. "Our goal is to quickly aid impacted customers in the recovery and return them to pre-loss condition as soon as possible."

Los Angeles-based Farmers Insurance also opened a temporary claims location to help customers victimized by the tornadoes and severe storms that swept through Virginia Monday.

“Our claims team has been on the ground assisting Farmers customers shortly after the storms and tornadoes hit southeastern Virginia,” says Riko Metzroth, Farmers Virginia state executive director and VP. “We are working as quickly as possible to help customers with their claims and begin the process of getting those impacted back where they belong—in their homes.”
