Lemonade has announced the expansion of its pet insurance to Massachusetts. The coverage is available for dogs and cats and includes diagnostic, procedural and other medical needs.

Massachusetts is the 37th state where Lemonade offers pet insurance in the U.S. Lemonade created a guide to navigating pet ownership in Massachusetts, including information about dog parks, local toxic plants and pet businesses in the state.

Pet owners can create a personalized insurance package with a range of add-ons including preventative and puppy or kitten preventative packages, which include spaying and neutering, vaccinations and flea and tick treatments. Additionally, consumers can add veterinary visit fees or physical therapy options to their policies.

The company, which went public in July 2020, is a certified B-Corp. Policyholders use the Lemonade app for quotes and filing claims. The company’s proprietary technology and artificial intelligence can resolve some claims in minutes.

Lemonade also announced its acquisition of Metromile, an insurtech that operates on a usage-based model, last November. The acquisition price puts Metromile lower than when the company went public via a SPAC, which valued it at $1.5 billion. Lemonade is known for its home and renters insurance but launched auto coverage in Illinois last year.
