Liberty Mutual, Volvo collaborate on driver safety program

Liberty Mutual has partnered with Volvo Car USA, offering drivers with the car manufacturer’s City Safety technology discounts on auto premiums, the companies announced.

The initiative is a part of Liberty Mutual’s new TechSafety program, encouraging the adoption of advanced and autonomous safety features among drivers. Volvo’s City Safety technology includes pedestrian, cyclist, and large animal detection with emergency autobrake. Liberty Mutual will study the effects of these safety features and share information with the carmaker, it said.

"We believe vehicles equipped with these types of advanced safety features will not only reduce crashes but help our customers worry less on the road while providing them new ways to save on their auto insurance," said Hamid Mirza, SVP of product strategy and solutions at Liberty Mutual, in a statement.

The Boston-based insurer has collaborated with Volvo since 2010, offering joint customers savings through its affinity program. TechSafety allows drivers to save up to an additional 10% on premiums, according to the insurer.

"This new TechSafety program with Volvo reflects the importance of these two industries coming together to truly co-create new value for U.S. customers with a commitment to driving auto safety innovation," said Sandeep Gupta, SVP of strategic partnerships at Liberty Mutual.

Customers in Illinois will have access to the TechSafety program discount this month. Additional states will be added through the end of the year.
