Manulife Gets New CIO from ETrade

Greg Framke has been appointed EVP and CIO of Manulife, Canada's largest insurer and the parent of John Hancock in the U.S.

Framke joins Manulife from ETrade,. where he was EVP and COO, and has also held IT leadership positions at Deutsche Bank and Morgan Stanley. In his new role, he's responsible for all of Manulife's IT functions, with a focus on customer experience, reporting to Paul Rooney, senior EVP and COO.

"We aspire to deliver a seamless, digitally-enabled, end-to-end customer experience and gain greater insight from customer data through advanced analytics to better support the business," said Rooney. "Greg has deep expertise in technology working for both large international technology organizations and fast growing startups. He has a proven track record of leading digital strategies to engage with the customer, particularly in the mobile space."

Manulife has been ratcheting up its innovation efforts both at its home base in Toronto and at his U.S. subsidiary. The company named Tim Ramza chief innovation officer and partnered with a Canadian innovation organization for a hackathon toward the end of last year.
