Motorists Insurance Utilizes Effisoft Software for Reinsurance Repository

Utilizing WebXL reinsurance software from Effisoft, the Motorists Insurance Group has created a centralized repository for all its reinsurance data, doubling its staff productivity in the process.

As Motorists reinsurance program became more complex, its system for tracking reinsurance claims had become more time consuming and less productive. The carrier wanted a system that would offer increased access to reinsurance data, stronger controls, and a better way to process, report and analyze information. WebXL’s reporting tools provided a solution by helping to isolate the claim experience and identify weather trends and severity. They also help Motorists work with rating agencies, reinsurers, brokers, external auditors and state examiners.

WebXL administers all ceded reinsurance for Motorists’ personal P&C, commercial P&C, workers’ compensation, catastrophe, and boiler and machinery claims. Prior to deploying the software, the equivalent of three full-time employees was needed to manage Motorists’ prior reinsurance program. With WebXL in place that number has been reduced by half.

Effisoft completed development in three months, and then led a training session for Motorists’ staff. Customizations included aggregate excess calculations, catastrophe management and an improved cash call function. The vendor also built interfaces to the COSMO claims system used by Motorists’ main operating carriers.

“Effisoft thoroughly understood our needs and exhibited a level of technical knowledge that differentiated it from the competition,” said Tom Brock, Motorists’ assistant VP, finance. He noted that a key benefit of the software has been the speed at which it allows Motorists to find and access critical information. “If we’re facing a situation where a reinsurer is going through insolvency or poses a notable credit risk, we need to assess our exposure,” he explained. “Now we can get our hands on that information so much easier and faster.”
