Nationwide taps Lytx to curb commercial driving distraction

Nationwide's commercial auto division is partnering with the insurtech Lytx to offer the company's DriveCam safety program to client fleet members.

Combining video and telematics capabilities, DriveCam gathers data from a windshield-mounted event recorder that powers both usage-based insurance and driver-feedback components processed by AI and human review. Nationwide hopes that the program will help commercial customers reduce distracted and dangerous driving and drive down fatalities.

“This partnership exemplifies our commitment to safety and innovation by leveraging technology to protect business owners and their employees,” said Gary Flaherty, vice president of commercial auto for excess and surplus specialty at Nationwide. “We’re confident that providing our members with solutions like the Lytx DriveCam program will help our members improve safety on the roadways by improving the driving standards within their fleets.”

On the personal lines side, Nationwide has incorporated technology from TrueMotion into its SmartRide UBI program to help curb distracted driving.
