New York Life Receives Information Management Award

New York — New York Life Insurance Co. (New York Life) received ARMA International's Cobalt Award for excellence in records and information management at ARMA International's annual Conference and Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Cobalt Award is presented annually to the company that exemplifies organization-wide best practices in managing records and information.

New York Life is the first recipient of this prestigious industry award, created to recognize the shift—and its resulting advantages—when an organization becomes focused on records and information management at a foundational and organizational level.

"Since the formation of the enterprise records management program, our vision and approach has involved input from every aspect of the company," says Eileen Slevin, SVP and CIO, New York Life. "Our promises of financial strength, integrity and humanity have been our guiding principles in this approach to records management and all aspects of our business."

The Cobalt Award recognizes organizations that have achieved excellence in records and information management throughout all levels, which is demonstrated by consistent policies; procedures and practices; financial impact; management accountability; and a company culture that recognizes the impact of managing information well.

"New York Life is privileged to receive the first-ever Cobalt Award, and we are honored to add this award to our long history of company firsts," says Barbara McInerney, SVP and chief compliance officer, New York Life. "As a company with more than 160 years of history, we would not be where we are today without fiercely guarding our policyholders' personal information."

All applicants underwent a thorough judging process that included a 120-question application to find clear indicators of top management support, organization-wide collaboration, solid records management practices, integrated and effective technology use, well-defined training programs for all staff, and appropriate risk management and compliance measures.
