Prudential Financial Creates Early Talent Identification Programs

Through the end of May, Prudential Financial Inc., a financial services company, will host two early talent development pipeline programs for high-achieving, diverse college students. The Prudential Peak Leadership Conference and the Actuarial Success Awareness Program bring college students to Prudential’s headquarters to expose them to the company and potential career paths in financial services.

Launched in 2012, the Peak Leadership Conference is a three-day interactive leadership program that provides students with real-world experiences and exposure to career opportunities in the financial services industry. The program focuses on underrepresented students with at least a 3.0 GPA. To participate, candidates must be a freshman or sophomore in a four-year undergraduate program, major in business and have a strong interest in financial services. After completing the program, participants are invited to apply for one of several Prudential internships the following year.

Twenty members of the 2014 summer internship class are past participants in Peak, and three participated in the Actuarial Success Awareness Program (ASAP). ASAP introduces high-potential science, technology, engineering and mathematics students to actuarial careers, providing financial support through scholarships and funded programs. Prudential initiated the program by developing a multi-year partnership with Spelman College in Atlanta. It was expanded to the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Georgia this year. Prudential is hosting 15 students for the 2014 program.

Peak and ASAP help Prudential Financial to identify and build relationships with candidates for future internships and its future workforce, said the company. The talent management begins with cultivation programs like Peak and ASAP. The programs offer the opportunity to build relationships with bright, young and diverse talent, while introducing those students to Prudential when they are considering their future career options.
