SEEC UNVEILS COMPONENT LIBRARY FOR LEGACY MIGRATIONSEEC, Inc., a Pittsburgh-based application management firm for the insurance and financial services industry, has developed the SEEC Advantage Library, a compilation of non-proprietary, pre-built business software components for the insurance and financial services industries. The Library is designed to enable companies to flexibly migrate from complex legacy structures to a service-oriented architecture model. It includes more than 100 software components that can be deployed independently or together, and is built to industry standards (ACORD-XML, Java, WSDL) to avoid the risk and costs of proprietary vendor lock-in. The Library also leverages existing portal, middleware and BPM investments.

MICROSOFT SQL SERVER 2005 PUT TO THE TEST

First American Title Insurance Co., the principal subsidiary of The First American Corp., Santa Ana, Calif., has formed a strategic alliance with Microsoft Corp., Redmond, Wash., for early testing of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 using First American's FAST Transaction System (FAST) database.

FAST is an integrated title and escrow system that unifies disparate systems into a centralized database and is currently one of the largest SQL Server 2005 implementations with more than 4 terabytes of data. Using a version of FAST with all personal information removed, Microsoft was able to validate SQL Server 2005 and improve system capabilities, ensuring that the new release of SQL Server is "FAST Certified."

MS/B ENHANCES STORM SURGE DATABASES

Seven new storm surge databases from Marshall and Swift/Boeckh (MS/B) are available for download by users of the Los Angeles-based firm's IntegriClaim property claims estimator, which provides the most recent storm surge data. The total component databases for Beaumont, Texas; Lake Charles and Shreveport, Louisiana; Jacksonville and Key West, Florida; Wilmington, North Carolina; and Toronto, Ontario, Canada can be accessed from MS/B's Web site at www.msbinfo.com

VITRIA ADDRESSES PAYER-PROVIDER INTEROPERABILITY

Vitria Technology Inc., a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based provider of business process integration solutions, has released a business process application (BPA) called Smart Gateway-the company's newest component in its Healthcare BPA suite. Smart Gateway is designed to extend the value of payer organizations' investments in HIPAA-standard processing by establishing end-to-end visibility and control over administrative interoperability between payers and their external constituents. Smart Gateway also provides an IT foundation for electronic health record (EHR) interoperability and regional health information organizations (RHIOs).

INTEGRATED SUITABILITY PROGRAM FOR ANNUITIES

Finetre Corp., a Herndon, Va.-based financial service software firm, has launched its Integrated Suitability Program to enable distributors of annuities to optimize sales while meeting regulatory requirements. The program includes a review that analyzes a firm's suitability and regulatory compliance program, along with a customized configuration of a suitability Reviewer View that consolidates client profile and seller agent information, transaction and product information, suitability questions and responses, red-flagged items that require attention, and related audit trail information.

SOFTWARE ASSESSES NAME QUALITY

Language Analysis Systems Inc. (LAS), Herndon, Va.-based makers of advanced multi-cultural name recognition technology, has released LAS NameInspector, software designed to help organizations assess the quality and characteristics of the names in their databases. Specifically, LAS NameInspector identifies problem records quickly, noting wrongly parsed names, multiple identities within the same record, potentially erroneous name entries, and data "clutter," such as random symbols or "test" names. The software also helps to understand the distribution of a names database for targeted marketing, including accurate gender breakdowns and cultural associations.
