The Hartford Appoints New Leadership

The Hartford, a company offering P&C insurance, group benefits and mutual funds, has realigned senior leadership positions.

Doug Elliot, who assumed the role of president of The Hartford July 1, will offer oversight for consumer markets and be accountable for the P&C lines of business, in addition to group benefits and claims. Bill Bloom will rejoin The Hartford as EVP of operations and technology, reporting to Swift and assuming the responsibilities of the information technology and operations organizations, and the company's technology strategy.

Brion Johnson, chief investment officer and president of Hartford Investment Management Co., also will oversee Talcott Resolution, the company's runoff annuity operations. He and the Talcott Resolution team will reduce the size and risk of the company's annuity liabilities and continue fulfilling commitments to contract holders.

Ray Sprague has been named EVP of strategy and business development, reporting to Swift. Sprague will be responsible for The Hartford's enterprise strategy to drive profitable growth and will serve as acting leader for consumer markets. Stephanie Bush, who currently is chief product and underwriting officer for small commercial, will assume leadership of small commercial, reporting to Elliot.

The new structure will offer the leadership needed for The Hartford to continue moving toward its goal of growing the property and casualty, group benefits and mutual funds businesses, said the company. It also will reduce the size and risk of Talcott Resolution and help the organization become more efficient and effective.

"Today's appointments will provide increased alignment, focus and accountability to enable us to deliver greater value to our customers and partners, and our shareholders," said The Hartford CEO Christopher J. Swift. "These executives are all proven leaders with excellent track records of delivering results, and I am thrilled they are taking on these roles.”
