Top 5 P&C Insurers with Smallest Short Interest

SmarTrend, which analyzes securities throughout the trading day and provides its subscribers with trend change alerts, released via Comtex a list of the top five companies in the property/casualty insurance industry ranked by the lowest short-interest ratio.

A low short-interest ratio may indicate that there are only a few people who are bearish on the stock.

1. ACE has a short-interest ratio of 1 based on average daily volume of 1 million shares and 2.1 million shares short. That equates to 0.6% of the 335.5 million shares outstanding.

2. Axis Capital Holdings has a short-interest ratio of 1.3 based on average daily volume of 849,000 shares and 1.1 million shares short. That equates to 1% of the 117.4 million shares outstanding.

3. Progressive has a short-interest ratio of 1.7 based on average daily volume of 4 million shares and 8.5 million shares short. That equates to 1.3% of the 663.4 million shares outstanding.

4. Allstate has a short-interest ratio of 1.9 based on average daily volume of 5 million shares and 9.7 million shares short. That equates to 1.8% of the 529.8 million shares outstanding.

5. Chubb has a short-interest ratio of 1.9 based on average daily volume of 2 million shares and 4.2 million shares short. That equates to 1.4% of the 297.3 million shares outstanding.

SmartTrend currently has shares of ACE in an “Uptrend” and issued the “Uptrend” alert on July 09, 2010 at $55.12. The stock has risen 14.7% since the Uptrend alert was issued.
