Narragansett Bay Insurance to Utilize BlueWave

Pawtucket, R.I.-based Narragansett Bay Insurance Co. (NBIC) has completed the second and final phase in the implementation of PipelineClaims 4.2 software application from Honolulu-based BlueWave Technology.

PipelineClaims 4.2 comprises one of the core solutions in NBIC's Project APEX technology initiative, in which NBIC is looking to modernize its in-house legacy systems. The goal is to establish a highly advanced, flexible and nimble technology environment that will allow NBIC to deliver exceptional customer service.

After deciding on a best-of-breed approach for the project, NBIC chose PipelineClaims to help consolidate IT processes and create a more fluid, configurable claims workflow. Since the initial implementation in August 2010, BlueWave and NBIC have worked together to implement the full integration of PipelineClaims with NBIC's other core solutions, says the vendor.

The full implementation of BlueWave Technology's PipelineClaims connects the various policy, document management, FNOL intake service and financial systems used by NBIC into a comprehensive whole that allows the entire solution to function more flexibly and intuitively, BlueWave says, adding that the overall training time reduction and cost savings allowed by PipelineClaims are expected to be dramatic, speeding claims processing and reducing IT expenditures.

Nationwide Selects Guidewire Claims

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. and Guidewire Software, a San Mateo, Calif.-based provider of core systems to property/casualty insurers, announced that Nationwide selected Guidewire ClaimCenter as its new claims management system. Nationwide will begin deployment of the solution in its commercial and personal auto lines.

Guidewire ClaimCenter is an end-to-end claims management system designed to enable insurers to define, enforce and continually refine their preferred claims handling practices in order to optimize and monitor their claim processes. The solution is available as a standalone system, or as part of the Guidewire InsuranceSuite, and can be integrated into an insurer's legacy systems or third-party applications, Guidewire says.

Columbus, Ohio-based Nationwide selected ClaimCenter because of its upgradeable and flexible foundation, which Guidewire says will help improve speed to market and provide ongoing system enhancements. Ernst and Young LLP, a Guidewire PartnerConnect alliance member, will be the systems integration lead on this project and will work closely with Nationwide on the project's implementation.

"ClaimCenter has the excellent functionality we were looking for in a state-of-the-art claims system," says David Bano, SVP, Claims, Nationwide. "We are looking forward to the many new ways in which the system will help us quickly service our policyholders.

"ClaimCenter is easy to configure, which will give us the flexibility to make system changes in-house so that we can respond rapidly as our business evolves," Michael Keller, EVP and CIO, Nationwide, adds.
