XL Group Focuses on Terrorism, Political Violence Underwriting

XL Group has appointed Daniel O’Connell to write War, Terrorism and Political Violence for the insurer's new crisis management team. He reports to Stephen Ashwell, chief underwriting officer, who was brought in by XL Group earlier this year to head up that crisis management team.

XL Group says its crisis management team offers Product Recall and War, Terrorism and Political Violence cover, and it is the group’s intention to develop Kidnap & Ransom and Personal Accident products for corporate clients. These products will be written out of London, Singapore and New York.

O’Connell has a military background reaching the rank of Captain in the British Army and has served in Germany, Iraq and Northern Ireland, says XL Group. He joins the company from Hiscox, where he worked underwriting War, Terrorism and Political Violence for the last two years. Prior to that, he had various roles at Willis Limited, Global Markets International.
