  • Lexington, Ky.— Exstream Software LLC, a Lexington, Ky.-based enterprise document automation solution provider, announced that Davis Marksbury is transitioning his role as president and chief executive officer to former IBM executive Richard Troksa, who has held various executive management positions at Exstream for the past four years. The transition was effective Oct. 1, 2007. Marksbury will remain on the board of directors as chairman and maintain an active role in Exstream's strategic planning and key initiatives.

  • Needham, Mass. — First American Insurance Underwriters Inc., the Needham, Mass.-based life insurance brokerage firm, has named Karen Kappler as a brokerage manager. She is responsible for working with agents and carriers to process new cases quickly and efficiently. Before joining First American, Kappler was employed by Commonwealth Financial Network in Waltham, Mass., where she served as executive vice president and was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's insurance department, including marketing, sales, operations and business management.   • Hartford, Conn. - The Phoenix Cos. Inc. announced that two insurance industry veterans, John Hillman and Frank Gencarelli, will lead a new subsidiary that will explore a range of options to meet changing customer needs. Hillman is chief executive officer of Phoenix's Philadelphia Financial Group subsidiary, and will direct the effort while continuing in his current role. Gencarelli, formerly senior vice president, business development at Genworth Financial, joined Phoenix as senior vice president, reporting to Hillman. Hillman has been involved in the life insurance industry for more than 25 years, initially as a member of the national insurance practice group at Arthur Andersen & Co., an international accounting firm. In 1996 he founded Philadelphia Financial Group, which provides private placement life insurance products for high-net-worth clients. Philadelphia Financial became a wholly owned subsidiary of Phoenix in 2003. Gencarelli has spent much of his career in the insurance industry developing relationships with advisors who serve the high-net-worth market. He joins Phoenix Life Solutions after 14 years with Genworth Financial and First Colony Life, most recently as senior vice president, business development. In that position, he was responsible for launching Genworth's new distribution channels. Earlier he was president of Genworth's Retirement Services group.   • New York - Switzerland-based Zurich Financial Services Group named Kevin Dunham as senior vice president and global relationship leader for the Western region of its Global Corporate in North America business unit. Dunham is based in Glendale, Calif., and will manage accounts primarily in the Southwest and Western United States.   • Columbus, Ohio - Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. executive vice president and chief financial officer Robert Rosholt announced his plans to retire next year. Larry Hilsheimer, partner at New York-based Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, and managing partner of Deloitte's Columbus office, has been named as Rosholt's replacement. Since joining Nationwide in 2002, Rosholt has overseen financial operations, investments and corporate strategy for the Nationwide family of companies, including Nationwide Financial Services. He previously served as executive vice president for Aon, Chicago, where he was responsible for the company's risk services unit, e-business initiatives, corporate marketing and communications, strategic sourcing and strategic investments. Prior to that, he served as chief financial officer for Chicago-based Bank One Corp. Hilsheimer, who will join Nationwide in October, has held numerous positions as a partner at Deloitte & Touche, including Columbus office managing partner, vice chairman and regional managing partner. Kellington, a former Ohio Casualty Group and IBM executive, has a long relationship with ACORD having served on the ACORD board of directors and chaired the ACORD Standards Committee. Kellington joined the ACORD Board in 2004 and served as chair of the ACORD Standards Committee following its formation later that same year. He also participated in the ACORD LOMA Insurance Systems Forum CIO Panel in 2006. Prior to this appointment, Kellington served as the senior vice president and chief technology officer for Fairfield, Ohio-based Ohio Casualty Group, and was a member of their executive management team, responsible for all corporate technology initiatives. Richard Connell, presently senior executive vice president, chief information officer, will assume the new role of chief administrative officer, with continued responsibility for the project management office and information technology, and added oversight for human resources, administrative services, and procurement and contracts administration. John Marchioni, presently senior vice president, personal lines and flood operations, will assume the role of chief field operations officer with added oversight for commercial and personal lines field operations, including the personal lines service center, agency programs, Selective risk solutions and bonds. Chuck Musilli, presently senior vice president, chief field operations and marketing officer, will head the newly created Selective risk solutions operation, which includes the Selective risk managers large account operation, the human resources outsourcing operation, Selective HR solutions and responsibility for developing an excess and surplus lines business. In his new role, Musilli will also be responsible for agency programs and flood operations. Musilli will report to John Marchioni. Ed Pulkstenis, senior vice president, chief commercial lines underwriting officer, with responsibility for the commercial lines strategic business units, commercial lines of business and reinsurance, will have additional oversight for marketing and communications, the business services unit and accounts, the commercial lines service center, and the strategic operations group which encompasses knowledge management, information strategy and market planning.   • New York - New York Life Insurance Co. announced that Craig Merdian has joined New York Life International (NYLI) as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Meridian reports to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of New York Life International Joseph A. Gilmour. In his new role, Merdian is responsible for managing several of New York Life International's core functional areas, including all financial, accounting, investment and actuarial matters for NYLI. Additionally, he is a member of NYLI's Senior Leadership Team, which is responsible for establishing management policies in all areas of the NYLI's business and affairs. Prior to joining New York Life, Merdian most recently served as vice president within the international insurance business at Newark, N.J.-based Prudential Financial Inc., where he was responsible for pricing and developing the financial structure for mergers and acquisitions.
