HL7’s Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources standard is the linchpin of health insurer Humana’s efforts to support data sharing with provider organizations to improve care for its members.

Humana is collaborating with electronic health records vendor Epic as both entities seek to bring together patients, providers and insurers to advance value-based care.

Health plans now gather and report data for quality reporting, claims reporting and to conduct risk adjustment analysis, but typically these various data collections occur separately, are sometimes duplicative and are uncoordinated, say Deloitte experts. But that will soon all change.

Roy Beveridge, MD, chief medical officer at Humana, contends that the insurer has made great strides in leveraging data to get ahead in value-based care.
