ABD Insurance Mobile-Empowers Producers in 60 Days

In just 60 days, ABD Insurance & Financial Services, the Silicon Valley-based broker was able to create a Salesforce-based mobile app for its producers that gives them much-needed information and alerts from the back-end systems for both its P&C and employee benefits product lines.  As a result, producers in the field can get an early jump on upcoming renewals, pinpoint cross-sell opportunities, and discover potential referral relationships that can help them close more deals.

Vlocity Insurance 2.0 helps insurers create Salesforce-based mobile apps by defining industry-specific objects such as policies and claims, as well as providing an open architecture that makes it easy to map data sources from back-end systems to customizable mobile front-ends.  In ABD’s case, those back-end systems are Vertafore’s AM360 and BenefitPoint.

Vlocity also plans to introduce connectors for popular industry applications such as GuideWire and established industry protocols such as ACORD XML.

According to ABD CIO Brent Rineck, leveraging an industry-specific integration platform like Vlocity offers several advantages.  “It would take us a lot of time and money to build on our own what Vlocity has already built for us,” he says.  “And by letting them worry about the continued evolution of the integration platform, we’re going to get better capabilities over time—even as we invest our own resources into other projects.”

Rineck also asserts that, given the market in which ABD operates, it’s almost a requirement that producers are able to whip out a Microsoft SurfacePro in front of their clients and retrieve up-to-date policy, claim and account data on the spot.

“When you’re doing business with Facebook and Twitter, people have certain expectations about the technology you bring to the table,” he says.  “So mobility isn’t just about producer productivity.  It’s also an essential aspect of our brand.”
