Aetna Jumps on HealthVault Bandwagon

Chicago — Health insurer Aetna Inc. will use the HealthVault personal health record platform from Microsoft Corp., Redmond, Wash.

The Hartford, Conn.-based payer will enable its members who use its CareEngine personal health record to transfer the information to the Web-based HealthVault. Beginning in November, Aetna members will be able to log into their Aetna PHR and transfer information to a new HealthVault account. The new account can then be stored, accessed and shared, as directed by the member, with providers and payers.

The payer’s PHR, which has been offered to 6 million of its more than 37 million members so far, is pre-populated with information gathered from physicians’ offices, labs, pharmacies and other sources.
