AIG Director Quits

New York — Troubled insurer American International Group Inc. (AIG) said yesterday that a director, Fred Langhammer, resigned last week.

AIG announced Langhammer's sudden departure in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

AIG spokesman Joe Norton said Langhammer, in a letter to his fellow directors on October 28, said other commitments abroad made it difficult for him to continue effectively as an AIG director.

Langhammer is chairman of global affairs for cosmetics company Estee Lauder Cos. Inc. He was elected to AIG's board in early 2006.
