Argo Insurance, US Grocery & Retail, a global provider of specialty coverage for restaurants and supermarkets, has announced the launch of ART-iTherma, a new IoT thermometer to complement Argo Risk Tech’s automated temperature compliance technology, the company says.

ART-iTherma works as a component of ART-iTemp, a wider platform for checking and logging temperature of perishable items, within Argo Risk Tech. By offering the technology to digitalize these inspections and checks, Argo believes the amount of accidents in groceries and restaurants can be reduced, Rooney Gleason, president of Argo Insurance's retail segment, told Digital Insurance in February.

His company is working to reinvent clipboard inspections by depending more on IoT and mobile technology. For example, Argo Risk Tech’s software digitally records the temperatures of perishable items using Bluetooth that connects smartphones to sensors, beacons and QR codes placed around a business. The result is a real-time assessment of produce on mobile operating displays or web dashboard. All technologies are also built to satisfy regulatory standards set by the FDA, USDA, and local health authorities, Argo says.

“As a specialty insurer of supermarkets, restaurants and c-stores, we are fully committed to bringing specialized solutions that improve our customers’ operations, reduce losses and provide a documented defense when necessary,” said Gleason, in a statement. “For our broker partners, Argo provides what other generalist carriers cannot – true expertise to significantly reduce losses in the retail sector.”
