AXA Equitable Appoints CIO, 3 SVPs

AXA Equitable Life Insurance Co. announced that Michael Healy was elected CIO by the company's Board of Directors. He reports to Richard Silver, senior EVP and chief administrative officer.

Healy is responsible for directing the company's systems strategy and delivery, including infrastructure, application development and corporate architecture. Prior to joining AXA Equitable in 2006, he served as a SVP at Marsh & McLennan, and in managerial roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

AXA also announced that Mary Bates, Nicholas Liolis and John Rivett have been elected to the position of SVP.

Mary Bates serves as the head of Life Underwriting. She reports to Joanne Pietrini-Smith, SVP and head of Business Management and Operations for the company's Financial Protection and Wealth Management business. In this position, Bates is responsible for developing underwriting guidelines and procedures consistent with the company's risk management policies. She manages the underwriting teams supporting both retail and third-party distribution channels. Since joining the company in 2007, Bates has served as VP of Underwriting Operations for the third-party distribution channel. Prior to joining AXA Equitable, she held leadership positions in the underwriting departments of Mass Mutual and ING.

Nicholas Liolis is the chief credit officer for the company. He reports to Kevin Byrne, EVP and chief investment officer. In this position, Liolis is responsible for the general account's fixed-income credit portfolio, asset liability management, setting and implementing investment strategy and managing risks in the company's investment portfolio. These duties are critical to preserving the company's capital base and maintaining strong credit ratings. Liolis has been with the company for 15 years working in the areas of investment analysis and asset liability management as well as fixed income and alternative investment portfolio management.

John Rivett is the senior information officer for AXA Equitable's Financial Protection and Wealth Management business. He reports to Michael Healy. Rivett is responsible for delivering IT strategies that are aligned with the unit's business goals. He oversees the teams responsible for project delivery, fiscal control, operational reliability, vendor management and process improvement. Rivett joined AXA Equitable in 2007. Prior to joining the company, he was a SVP for Marsh Inc. Earlier, he held technology management positions in several U.S. and UK companies in the insurance sector.
