CSC Launches New Enterprise Data Loss Prevention Service

Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC) has introduced a data loss prevention (DLP) service to identify, monitor and proactively protect confidential data wherever stored or used throughout the enterprise.

The offering, an integrated part of CSC's Protected Enterprise portfolio of security solutions, reduces the risk of data loss, which can threaten customer confidence, brand integrity and the bottom line. It also supports compliance mandates to monitor and ensure data security.

Recent findings by leading industry research firms indicate that data loss is a rapidly growing concern for the market. The Identity Theft Resource Center announced Jan. 6, 2009, a 47% increase in security breaches from 2007 to 2008.

"Data on the move" and "accidental exposure," both of which are addressed by a DLP solution, accounted for 35% of the breaches with an identifiable cause. In addition, TheInfoPro's "Information Security Wave 10 - Industry Profile Report," issued in December 2008, shows that FORTUNE 1000 companies are indicating DLP as a top information security pain point and a top initiative for 2009.

CSC's DLP solution, powered by technology from Symantec, provides clients with a comprehensive, flexible and customizable service that supports data-related regulatory compliance requirements for global organizations and a range of industries. The solution, which includes centrally managed DLP capabilities, prevents sensitive data from leaving a client's network through e-mail or Web services. It also blocks the copying of such data to USB devices, CD/DVDs and local drives, as well as prevents it from being electronically printed or faxed.

"Our DLP offering draws upon our proven best practices and in-depth understanding of how organizations use and can best protect their data," says James Menendez, VP of CSC's Global Security Solutions organization. “It also leverages our years of experience working with Symantec and related economies of scale. We're pleased to build on our synergies and address the pressing market need for a complete data discovery, monitoring and protection solution."

"This new offering, based on Symantec's Data Loss Prevention software, expands the options that enterprise businesses have to address this ever-increasing challenge," says Rob Greer, senior director of product management for Data Loss Prevention Solutions at Symantec. "
