Resolutions For 2002Remember when New Year's resolutions were in vogue? Maybe it's me, but I didn't hear anyone proclaim their resolutions for 2002. Maybe it's because people today have a harder time keeping promises (who can forget "Read my lips, no new taxes!"). Or maybe it's because after all of the resolutions we've made over the years, we've systematically eliminated all our bad habits and traits (I doubt that very much).
Personally, I enjoy the arrival of a new year. Following the holiday festivities, it's a time when you can wipe the slate clean, be optimistic about the future and prepare yourself for unforeseen challenges. Optimism is an emotion that we as a nation have been lacking since the Sept. 11 tragedy. Coupled with the economic downturn and uncertainty about the economy, the past four months have been emotionally draining for Americans.
