RED HAT ENTERPRISE LINUX 6 AVAILABLE IN BETA
Insurers that rely on Raleigh, N.C.-based Red Hat for insurance technology optimization can now install, test and provide feedback for what the company expects will be "one of its most ambitious and important operating platform releases to date" -Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
Now available in beta, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 blurs the lines between virtual, physical and cloud computing to address shifts taking place in the modern IT environment, the company says.

The major themes of the release include pervasive virtualization, improved scalability and availability, increased power efficiency and delivery of some of the latest software technologies, Red Hat says.
Other improvements include new security features and resource management, support for network block storage and automatic detection of display types and support for multiple displays.
ADEPTOL TECH ADDS 1,000 USERS IN YEAR ONE
More than 1,000 companies have signed up for Santa Clara, Calif.-based Adeptol LLC's cloud document-viewing program, CloudConnect, in less than a year of its debut.
The program, which features a technology that the company says lets users link documents saved on their own server without having to upload to the Adeptol server, enables the user to view the document while it's still downloading.
"Many products are available in market today that will allow a user to upload documents to a server and then view them in an AJAX viewer," says Prateek Kathpal, CEO of Adeptol. "Unfortunately, none of them really offers a real-time viewing experience. Adeptol's CloudConnect makes sure that users remain in control of their documents."
Adeptol says CloudConnect is designed to save companies bandwidth costs, and allows users to view more than 300 file formats from a single viewer at a high-speed mode.
STONERIVER UNVEILS INTEGRATION PLATFORM
StoneRiver, Oakland, Calif., recently debuted its Insurance Integration Platform (IIP), the foundation to the company's StoneRiver Stream P&C insurance administration system.
The StoneRiver IIP serves as the support basis for Stream applications, which can be used individually, and produces what the company says to be a "full enterprise service bus."
StoneRiver also said the program will allow companies to scale costs in periods of growth, and provides users with easier automation, integration and an overall enhanced interface framework.
"While the focus of the Stream solution is on solving business problems, the technical platform supports a carrier's quest to become leaner, faster and smarter," says Gary Sherne, president of StoneRiver. "The enterprise service bus is roughly parallel to a symphony conductor orchestrating various instruments with a common musical score. The service bus orchestrates underlying services in composite business processes that can be reconfigured, so true plug-and-play capability is possible."
