Rahul Merchant, the first citywide CIO for New York City, will join TIAA-CREF as CIO on April 27.
Merchant also has worked at Fannie Mae, Merrill Lynch, and Exigen Capital in technology leadership roles. He left the New York City government last year and had been a consultant before joining TIAA-CREF.
“Thanks to TIAA-CREF’s commitment to technology application and innovation, the organization has emerged at the forefront of online customer service in the financial services industry,” said Merchant. “I look forward to continuing this technology transformation by strengthening the organization’s IT infrastructure to deliver the business excellence expected of a full-service financial services provider.”
TIAA-CREF's former CIO, Annabelle Bexiga, accepted a COO position in the company's asset management unit last year. Merchant will report to company COO Ron Pressman.
