Great American Continues IT Overhaul

Cincinnati - A technology overhaul is continuing at Cincinnati-based Great American Insurance Co. with the decision to replace the company’s policy and customer system of record.

The revamping, led by Great American’s new senior vice president and CIO, Piyush Singh, is concentrated on front-end applications for insurance processing with a service-oriented architecture (SOA).

Sing earned a reputation for building front-end technology while serving as CIO during a similar transition at RLI Systems, a Peoria, Ill., multi-line P&C carrier.

At Great American he says he plans to devise a system that manages appointments, interactions and state-by-state compliance requirements.

For software in the policy and customer system, the company has tapped the Toronto-based Castek subsidiary of i-flex solutions, to supply the Insure3 Policy product.

“Our vision of being a service-oriented architecture enterprise necessitates the acquisition of flexible software that can be integrated with our front-end development and other best-of-breed software components,” Singh says. He also cites the capacity for rapid change as a key software characteristic.

Great American, part of the Great American Insurance Group Inc., offers property and casualty insurance, with a focus on specialized commercial products for businesses, and sells retirement annuities and supplemental insurance products.
